Music Momentum is a mobile app designed to help a person improve their fitness levels while listening to their music. It can be used in many different forms of sporting activities. This is done by using the GPS data of a person’s mobile device, and calculating their speed at a given stage. When starting a session, the user inputs their Target Minimum Speed (TMS). Their current speed is then continuously compared against this target speed, and if the person slows down below their TMS, the app will notify them in several ways to encourage them to pick back up their pace.

When the user drops below their TMS setting, the app will notify them through 3 different forms of notifications. These are the ‘Music Slow Mo’ feature, vibration and visual forms of feedback. The ‘Music Slow Mo’ feature is a unique approach in design so that when this feature is triggered, it slows down the users music remarkably so that it represents something like the sound of a slow playing record.

In order to get their music back to the normal playing speed, they need to accelerate their pace to match (or above) their TMS, giving them the best possible momentum for each and every workout. Alternatively they can reduce their TMS within a session to a more appropriate pace, and if they wish to take a break from using the apps features, they also have the option of pausing the session at any stage.

Additionally, the user of the app can create up to 10 different playlists with 10 songs for each playlist, giving them the option of having up to 100 songs in total with the Music Momentum app. Having 10 different playlists to choose from, allows for personal choice and preference of music styles for particular types of workouts and routes. This means the user can listen to their favourite artists while working out and move to the sound of their music, with the option of sharing playlists with friends to indicate what they are listening to during any particular session.
